As government officials drop hints left right and centre that 'herd immunity' might be the only long-term solution to Covid-19 if a vaccine isn't found soon, we ask: what are the ethical and moral implications of (almost) wilfully causing up to 60% of the population to contract the virus? To what extent can we make sacrifices in the short term to benefit the long-term wellbeing of society? And if, God forbid, this crisis drags on far longer than expected, what are the implications of rationing and redistribution of critical resources?
